When Mara finally gave in and opened her eyes on that bright, chilly morning she smiled a little as the memories from last night began flooding back into her mind, and she knew what would happen next. She felt an intense disinclination to accept the morning, mostly because she was never really a morning person in the first place, and this particular morning was exponentially sucktastic. As her eyes slowly adjusted to the light streaming in from the cracks between the navy colored curtains and across the room, streaking the purple, silk comforter and her face with rays of delicious brightness, she knew today was inevitably about to become one of the worst days of her life. When she stretched out her arms and legs, preparing to slide her bare feet out from under the covers and onto the cold hard wood floor, silently hoping her ratty old dinosaur slippers were nearby, she heard the faint groan coming from next to her. Mara had to resist looking over, because she knew that if she even so much as dared to peek at the person sharing her bed that morning she'd never, not for one second, be able to do what she must. She had to get out of there as quickly and quietly as possible (her life depended on it) and no matter how amazingly brilliant and adorable he was she was not about to foolishly risk her life...again.

She closed her eyes, trustingly placing her head back against his fingers with a sigh.
James tilted the bowl towards her mouth, draining it, feeling his whole body vibrate as she sighed in pleasure. A few drops of liquid fell on her bottom lip and completely caught up in the sensual moment, James leaned down to lick the shimmering liquid off her lip.

Charlotte’s eyes flew open in shock, “are you kissing me again?”
  	“That wasn’t a kiss.”
The wooden bowl fell to the floor with a dull clatter as he plunged both his hands into Charlotte’s thick curls and pulled her towards his mouth.

The King of the Dark Fae, primeval Master of the Wild Hunt, and ruler of her very own nightmares was too beautiful for words. Duff wore nothing at all, his tanned limbs standing stark to the vast whiteness of the bed. A sprinkle of honey-colored hair covered his broad chest and a thin line trailed down below his waist. His arms and shoulders were molded muscle, as if a statue. And his legs lay out before her, long and powerful. Virility radiated from him in waves.

It sounded like a freight train coming full blast to the house. I hid inside the hall closet, slammed the door shut, and covered myself with the coats that I ripped off the hangers. I cried for Mrs. Talbot, who I just started to call Mom. The pressure was so intense that my ears popped really hard. The house shook so violently. I could feel and hear the house being ripped apart.

We were here again. Here at this awful place, that only reminded us of all the things we weren't. We weren't happy, or in love, or in a good place. At least I wasn't. When he left again I knew I was right. And damn this cold and lonely bed for reminding me.

People often told me that I lived in paradise.

Little did they know how opposite of true that statement was. On the surface, perhaps, the illusion was valid. Growing up alongside the beaches of Hawaii could certainly classify as a sort of "heaven on Earth" for many. In my eyes, however, it was more like purgatory. There was no way out.

He laughs not loudly just loud enough so I can hear, a laugh for me and me alone.
“Only I will taste my princess.”
I stop breathing stop thinking, nothing else exist no one else exists, all that exists is this man. Suddenly his lips are on mine in a hungry kiss, a consuming kiss as if he is trying to possess me. His hands reach around my back and pull me to him, his large hard body pressed against mine. My hands instinctively wrap around his neck my mouth opens to his, to give him more then he already has.

The Passadumkeag River tumbled beneath my dirty feet on that hot July day in 1977. I raced from one side of the bridge to the other, dropping daisy heads and seed pods to watch them spin toward the water and then be swept downstream. The skin on my chest was chafed from leaning over the concrete barrier. I hoped that my mother wouldn’t see those scrapes and bruises. She would know that I had been playing on the forbidden bridge. I was terrified of my mother, but the rushing static of the river refused to release me.

My eyes drift upwards, gliding across what seems like endless acres of hard muscle and tanned skin and the most impressive set of arms I’ve ever seen before finally meeting hazel eyes.
Several seconds pass before I remember how to breathe. “You shouldn’t sneak up on people.” Ungluing my tongue from my soft palate and forming the words is a Herculean task.
“I didn’t.” Luke shifts, adjusting the heavy bag of grain slung over his shoulder to a more comfortable position, and the corner of his mouth lifts in a cocky smile.
